40th annual Newcastle Permanent Primary School Mathematics Competition
Students of Mudgee are set to make history as they take part in the 40th annual Newcastle Permanent Primary School Mathematics Competition, with 62 year 5 and 6 students from 2 schools in Mudgee to sit the exam Wednesday.
Newcastle Permanent’s Branch Lending Manager Sam Watson says students in Mudgee will sit the 35-question exam with zero help from calculators, rulers, or any other mathematical instruments.
He says that the Primary School Mathematics Competition provides students with an opportunity to gain invaluable problem solving skills.
Overall, 16,915 students from 287 schools throughout regional NSW will sit the exam.
Last year saw a result in Mudgee with Mudgee Public School’s Jarrah-Banjo Leary and Benjamin Bryant receiving the Mudgee District Award Year 5 and Mudgee District Award Year 6 respectively, setting the challenge for fellow students.
