Mudgee's New Art Gallery Finding It's Feet

The funding gap for the Mid-Western Regional Art and Cultural Centre, may be about to be closed.

Construction has commenced, though a low estimate of the cost supplied to Council by consultants before the tender process, meant a portion of the budget was yet to be found.

On Saturday, Member for Dubbo Dugald Saunders told 2MG's Ken Sutcliffe that some more NSW Government funding is on the way.

"I can't provide figures at this point, but there is a little more coming in the way of funding which I will be announcing soon".

The gallery's Curator is Lizzy Galloway, who says the process of attracting artists to display works has already begun, with a multi-faceted approach to exhibitions..

"We will be taking renowned artists and travelling exhibitions, such as the Archibald Prize; but also having a local artist approach as well".

She also says that it's important to have a main focus on the artistic directive of our region.

"It is very much our priority to invite local artists to display their work".

"We have our first show locked in with a Mudgee-bown artist called Guy Mastry, who does large landscape artworks, which feature outdoor paintings of areas across the region".
