Feedback On Dixons Long Point Bridge Crossing

Mid-Western Regional Council is seeking feedback on the proposed location for the new bridge crossing to replace the existing river crossing at Dixons Long Point, connecting Mudgee and Orange. An assessment of the options for the proposed bridge crossing and road upgrades has been completed, in consultation with various stakeholders. Four options were proposed as part of the Feasibility Study with consideration to cost, constructability, flood immunity, and environmental and community impacts. A preferred option has been selected 1.5km north of the 4WD crossing due to reduced bridge length with flood immunity and fewer piers in the Macquarie River. Council’s General Manager Brad Cam says that plans of the proposed bridge location can be found on council’s website and is encouraging residents to have their say. Feedback is now open and will close on 30th November.

Static Water Supply Program Ahead

Image
Locals are being reminded to sign up to the Static Water Supply program if they have a pool, water tank or dam ahead of the upcoming bushfire season. Superintendent Michael Jay from Fire and Rescue NSW explains what SWS is all about. "It involves places with a decent amount of water that we can use, and we are keen to identify the houses that have any one of these structures to assist in our firefighting efforts." Fire and Rescue say that by signing up to the Static Water Supply program, you’re helping firefighters locate these vital water resources when they need it most, saying that your pool will only be used as a last resort. Superintendent Jay says that Static Water Supplies are required by ALL types of properties. Detective Inspector CAMERON WHITESIDE heads the RURAL CRIME PREVENTION TEAM and told 2MG that one extra piece of information could make the difference. "The reality is that the police may not know all the information at first, and once that information comes to us, the farmer is 99% right in knowing exactly who is committing the offense.  "But even an anonymous phone call to police or Crime Stoppers will help step up investigations," he says. He told KEN SUTCLIFFE that stock theft is NOT using big trucks, but smaller methods of transport. "Rest assured, they're being stolen from utilities, trailers, horse floats, and even gutted caravans". New hazard reduction powers for Farmers

The NSW RFS Commissioner will have the power to issue Bushfire Hazard Reduction Notices to public authorities in circumstances where vegetation should be cleared to protect lives or property. NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner Rob Rogers has welcomed the additional powers. Meanwhile, the local Rural Fire Ser

'The Drip' Gorge To Be Protected

Image
The NSW Government has declared that a further 33 hectares of land around The Drip gorge and along the Goulburn River will be protected under a State Conservation Act.     (Image sourced: www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au)   The Mudgee District Environment Group say that while this is welcomed news, this is only the first step in the process to excluding all mining activities. Marking the gorge as a state protected area does not completely protect it from mining and exploration practices. The local group is calling on boosting the status of the area to that of the Goulburn River Park status, to maintain the stability of sandstone cliffs along the river corridor.
