Helping Local Travel Agents Keep It Together
The Federal Government is set to provide a one-off payment to assist travel agents in recognition that many continue to work hard processing consumer refunds, whilst unable to trade due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Federal Member for Calare, and Minister for Decentralisation and Regional Education, Andrew Gee says the local travel industry have been doing it tough, with international and domestic border closures causing ongoing uncertainty for the sector.
Under the $128 million scheme, eligible travel agents with a turnover of between $50,000 and $20 million a year will be able to apply for the one-off payment.
“Our travel agents are great small businesses, that are often family-run, and they are crying out for help”.
Mr Gee also says “job keeper has been a god-send for our travel agents, however as it gets scaled back, more help is needed.”
The Minister believes the key is to get people travelling again soon, with his latest statement on the idea.
“As the border restrictions ease and as we get the vaccines rolled out in March, we’d like everyone to start travelling again and one way we can move forward is by visiting our local travel agents”.
