Putting Mudgee Regent Theatre In State Member's Hands
Mayor for the Mid-Western Region, Des Kennedy, has defended the almost unanimous decision of local Council not to get involved in the upcoming auction of the Mudgee Regent Theatre.
He says everyone would like to see the building preserved and better maintained, but if a private buyer come in to do that it’s a win for ratepayers.
"We will do what we can to keep that building looking up to scratch, however, council isn't in the position to go waving their hand around and bidding at an auction.".
Mr Kennedy also says "The NSW Government has listed it as a State Heritage listed building, which means even shifting the seats in the theatre would be very difficult".
The Mayor argues to the Local Government member in the State, that "if you think it's a significantly-listed building, you can fund the repairs and bring it up to scratch".
