Businessman Bolsters Importance Of Council Election

A local businessman has commenced a local advertising campaign, taking out front page print advertisements ahead of this year’s Local Government election.


Hugh Bateman has authorized and paid for the ads, which say we need more women, and a chance to change the current council.


Mr Bateman told 2MG news that what he’s intending to do.

“Really trying to achieve the prospect of getting more women in council, but also to get more people to think about running for council”.

He says “with the council election coming up in a few months’ time in early September, it’s important we have good managers and good people on council.”
 

The town advocate says why he’s done this now.

“It’s probably one of the most crucial elections we’ll have had in some years, because there are a lot of things that have to be done; like more services in the area, another land-use strategy, as there are more people coming to live here now and there’s just not enough land available.”
