Possible Regional Housing Boom
The affordability, and the issue of housing in regional areas such as ours has been discussed with the Deputy Premier, John Barilaro on 2MG, saying that the bounce back from drought and COVID-19 has seen a boom time for the bush.
“I’m willing to work with any local council to see where the State Government can provide any resources or focus to assist them to unlock this land”.
He says “we have to think about the fact that opening up larger blocks of land further out of towns might not be the way forward anymore; and with local MPs such as Dugald Saunders jumping in to talk about developing townhouse and multi-level developments, which might sound absurd for regional towns but that urban development is just as important”.
Mr Barilaro goes onto say that the major moves from the cities have been unexpected.
“No-one would’ve expected that off the back of COVID, that people would migrate from Sydney, and it looks like we’ll have another Sydney summit, because Sydney is in decline and the bush is growing at a rate we’ve never seen before”.
