Lack Of Options In The Region's Rental Market
The over-saturation of people coming to live in the regions of NSW and the lack of real estate to accommodate is prompting action.
Minister for Better Regulation and Innovation, MP Kevin Anderson, during a visit to Dubbo last Tuesday, met with real estate and property managers from Mudgee through to Dubbo.
The meeting prompted discussions including residential tenancy and future zoning and planning issues.
MP Dugald Saunders who facilitated the meeting, says more attention and solutions has been required for some time.
“In Dubbo and Mudgee, there is a shortage of different types of housing. I’ve been calling for a while now a greater availability of medium-density housing, which includes townhouses, units, and duplexes.”
He promotes that “these are the best ways to provide more housing that will suit different styles of people who are now moving to our region.”
The meeting also focused on other primary challenges estate agents are currently facing, and how they are dealing with the effects of COVID.
The MP says one of the challenges also standing is the state of the rental market.
“Particularly in a place like Mudgee, rental properties are very hard to come across.”
“Traditionally what would be used as normal weekly rentals are now being used as AirBnB’s; so, there is a general lack of properties on the market now. However, if there are variants across the market then there is opportunity for different price points,” he says.
