Accused back in court

The man accused of the Murder of Gulgong teenager Michelle Bright more than 21 years ago appeared in court again yesterday. Craig Henry Rumsby made a very brief appearance in Mudgee Local Court via video link.   Rumsby did not apply for bail, however, it was formally refused by the court, with him to remain in custody to reappear in Mudgee court via video link on October 21 st 2020. Ultimate care finalists

  Mudgee Ultimate Care have been announced as a finalist in the Australian Beauty Industry Awards for 2020. The awards are judged by leaders and peers in the Australian Beauty Industry and is known as the most prestigious awards in the industry.  Ultimate Care has been named a finalist in the NSW/ACT State Beauty Salon/Sap of the year 4 treatment rooms of less. This comes after Ultimate Care was named a finalist in the 2019 NSW Business Chamber Awards for Outstanding Employer of Choice category.   Winners will be announced at a Gala event to be held at The Star Sydney in early December, with the local team hoping that the event will be able to proceed with Covid restrictions. Marg Ottley and her team say they are thrilled and honoured to be named a finalist and hope to bring home the award to Mudgee.

Power outage cause remains unknown

Parts of the region were thrown into darkness yesterday morning, with power out to over 400 customers in our area.   Essential Energy told 2MG that their crews responded quickly, after electricity network protection equipment activated automatically after detecting a problem, switching power off to 463 homes and businesses in Eurundereee and Putta Bucca areas at 7.21am.   Crews carried out a patrol of the electricity network in the area and, after ensuring it was safe to do so, restored power to all customers by 8.26am.   The cause of the unplanned outage was not found.   Essential Energy thanks customers for their patience as crews worked to restore their power supply as quickly as safety allowed.

40th annual Newcastle Permanent Primary School Mathematics Competition

Students of Mudgee are set to make history as they take part in the 40th annual Newcastle Permanent Primary School Mathematics Competition, with 62 year 5 and 6 students fr om 2 schools in Mudgee to sit the exam Wednesday. Newcastle Permanent’s Branch Lending Manager Sam Watson says students in Mudg e e will sit the 35-question exam with zer o help from calculators, rulers, or any other mathematical instruments. He says that the Primary School Mathematics Competition provides students with an opportunity to gain invaluable problem solving skills. Overall, 16,915 students from 287 schools throughout regional NSW will sit the exam. Last year saw a result in Mudgee with Mudgee Public School’s Jarrah-Banjo Leary and Benjamin Bryant receiving the Mudgee District Award Year 5 and Mudgee District Award Year 6 respectively, setting the challenge for fellow students.  

Local Finance awards finalist

And Congratulations to Penny Adam of Adam & Associates Chartered Accountants, who has been listed as a finalist in the “Women in Finance” awards in the employer of the year category.   The awards are a national awards program designed to shine a spotlight on the strength, diversity and innovation female leadership brings to professional and financial services in Australia.   The winners will be announced on 10 September through a virtual awards broadcast.

New Police on the beat

The Orana Mid-Western Police district is set to receive seven new Police recruits, following the latest NSW police force graduation ceremony last week.   The attestation ceremony welcomed 197 new probationary constables on Friday, and has already been given confirmation in what area of command they will be stationed at.   The Total of 7 are likely to be a different station across the district, and officially began their duties from yesterday.   Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders has welcomed seven new police officers.   Mr Saunders welcomed the recruits to the region , after more than eight months of world-class training at the academy.   “Our new police officers are a much needed boost to the Dubbo community and they will be a great help to the Orana Mid-Western Police District,” Mr Saunders said.   (Photo:Supplied)

Mudgee Veterans Association Will Stay Put

Federal Member for Calare, Andrew Gee, was at the Mudgee railway station on Friday, to formally make the announcement that the Districts Vietnam Veterans, Peacekeepers and Peacemakers Association (VVPPA) has received a government grant of over $10,000.   The funding is to provide the necessary support for office supplies and wages to some office staff, to keep the association going.   Mr Gee says "$10,300 goes to help them continue their important work ion supporting our local veterans and the veteran community".   "The work that they do is all important because it recognises that care for our veterans just doesn't stop when active service ends and when they come back from overseas. This organisation in Mudgee is all about supporting them through their lives after service".   Multiple members on the day also expressed how important an organisation such as this is to improve and support mental health for those coming back from service.
